Gee Todd, why are sneering comments about JBL products specifically tolerated here? JBL (originally Lansing Sound Inc.) was the last company founded by the originator of most of what we revere about Altec Lansing, James B. Lansing! His last company may have been unsuccessful in his lifetime, but ultimately prevailed, like Altec Lansing, due to the strength of his stellar design work.

Because JBL (Just Big and Loud) is the enemy! ;-)

Besides, the size of the 4" diaphragms with the 2" throat are just wrong, for many reasons.

Oh - and also because Jim Lansing WASN'T an engineer: he was a tool and die maker, like his brother. He didn't invent anything. He built the tools necessary to manufacture the designs of others (Blackburn, Carrington, and Hilliard being among the more well known).

Nothing. It's just that James B. Lansing is heralded as being some sort of engineering genius who invented things he never did.

Old Guy, you have to admit, although I personally prefer Altec speakers, those JBL guys over there do have a point sometimes.....especially regarding JBL innovations to driver technology vs Altec's over the latter decades. :-) Altec did innovate in beginning but really sat on their hands for far too long.

Your comment has zero to do with my comment. I said nothing about technology, just there is a very strong "herd" mentality there.

Don't believe me? Go over there and suggest Radian aluminum diaphragms might sound better than JBL titanium ones.
